Valley Of The Kings
Overview
The Valley of the Kings is a vast valley sandwiched between two mountains that are lined with rock-cut tombs. During the New Kingdom era of Egypt (1500 BCE), when its capital was Thebes (now Luxor), the ancient valley was the burial ground for the Egyptian Pharaohs. The tombs were an architectural gem of that time and their grandeur and impressiveness can still be seen today. The tombs were filled with food and other essential items as the pharaohs believed they would have a need for it in the afterlife.
