Temple Of Abu Simbel

image

Overview

One of the most ancient sites in Aswan, a visit to the Temple of Abu Simbel is a must for any traveler. During the time of Ramses II (1279–1213 BC), two ancient Egyptian temples were cut out of the rock on the west bank of the Nile to form the ancient complex now known as the Temple of Abu Simbel. The temples were built to memorialize the Pharaoh's impressive victory at the Battle of Kadesh. The site is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognised for its importance and role in the history of the ancient city of Aswan.
