Roman Amphitheater
Overview
Built during the 2nd century AD, the Roman Amphitheater is perhaps the most prominent historical landmark in Jerash. It was built on the orders of Emperor Antoninus and served as the main spot for gatherings and spectacles during Roman rule in the ancient city of Jerash. The Amphitheater could accommodate up to 3000 spectators in its heyday and it is still in an impressive condition due to the special care given to it. One of the best preserved archaeological sites in the whole world, Jerash‘s ancient history can be found in the remains of the Amphitheater.
