Hatshepsut Temple
Overview
The ancient Hatshepsut Temple honors Hatshepsut, the first woman to rule Ancient Egypt alone for 21 years during the New Kingdom era of Egypt. Built in 1464 BCE, the ancient structure is one of the rarest of its kind among the ancient ruins of the area and is a major tourist destination in Luxor. One of the greatest architectural gems in its time, the site is heavily visited by tourists every year, who brave the heat and visit Luxor’s most prominent landmark.
