Night Under The Stars: Wadi Rum Night Camp Review

Jordan’s Wadi Rum region is one of the most historical and fascinating places for those interested in history and wanting to be close to nature. A place holding so much history in its desert landscape, it’s one of the best places to camp for the night. For those seeking peace from the bustling and chaotic atmosphere of Jordan’s cities and going camping in this remote region, the best way to do so, is to camp and stay in the Wadi Rum Night Camps in the valley.

The Wadi Rum Night Camps are the best way to experience the ancient valley’s historical significance, the history visible around the rough edges of its rocks, and the amazing activities you can do there. For a place that’s so far from civilization and in the middle of nowhere, it’s the best spot for a night close to nature, right in the shadows of the starry night sky.

For this blog, we’ll be going over a Wadi Rum Night Camp Review made by our team to let first-time travelers to Wadi Rum know what they’re going to experience when they step foot in this far-flung, historical place known as Wadi Rum.

Everything You Need to Know: A Complete Wadi Rum Night Camp Review

So without further ado, here’s some information about Wadi Rum itself and its lovely night camps to start our Wadi Rum Night Camp Review:

A Peek Into the Ancient History of Wadi Rum

The region known as Wadi Rum, meaning ”Valley of the Moon” is one of Jordan’s oldest areas with evidence suggesting it was inhabited since the Paleolithic Period in Earth’s history. Its reddish, desert landscape has immense cultural significance and is filled with ancient human activity such as inscriptions and scrawlings found on the big rocks strewn around the Mars-like valley.

It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Jordan’s most popular and traveled-to tourist destinations. Located close to the Saudi border, travelers will easily love this culturally rich place, inhabited by the Bedouin tribes that have occupied its desert landscapes long before Antiquity and have become the Wadi’s (Valley in Arabic) image and pride and joy.

One of the top features of the night camps is the communal servings of ancient Bedouin and Jordanian cuisines. You’ll find traditional dishes to eat such as the Bedouin Zarb (a slow-cooked meal in a sand oven including meat and vegetables), Mansaf (lamb cooked in yogurt, with rice), Hummus, Fattoush, Tabbouleh, and drinks such as the famous Arabic Coffee (Cardamom flavored), Bedouin tea (infused with mint or sage), with the desert scene also being awesome.

Another way to really make your stay remarkable in our Wadi Rum Night Camp Review is by exploring the historic landscape of the Wadi on desert Jeeps or by going on the famous Camel rides of the Middle East. Going on Jeep rides across the Wadi desert is one of the best ways to explore the hard-to-reach areas and record a new and thrilling experience of riding in Jeeps across the desert.

On the other hand, going on Camel rides is the best way to experience the old and traditional Middle Eastern culture and in the case of Wadi Rum, exploring the valleys and canyons of the ancient desert.

3. Stargaze Across the Valley’s Lit Up Night Sky

Wadi Rum is famous for its amazing night sky and is one of the best places where you can stargaze without any light pollution or buildings, due to its remote location. The night sky lights up, especially during the autumn season in Wadi Rum, where you’ll experience clear skies and a spectacular view of the night sky, unimpeded by a large city’s lights.

Yes, you heard that right, a Hot Air Balloon in the middle of the desert. That might come as a shock to some, but you can go on Hot Air Balloon rides in Wadi Rum. They usually happen during the very early mornings around sunrise. The rides last for an hour, with additional time required for the setup. It’s one of the best ways to see Wadi Rum from above and experience the panoramic views of the various rock formations and the red landscape of the dunes and the canyons.

The last item in our Wadi Rum Night Camp Review is the reviews for travelers having experienced the camps for themselves. Knowing someone’s first-hand experience is important, especially for travelers. Meanwhile, here are some reviews of travelers who have experienced the night camps of Wadi Rum for themselves:

1. “The Best Time I Ever Had”

The Wadi Rum Night Camp was amazing. We were right underneath the starry sky and eating delicious Bedouin food. I especially liked Zarb, the underground cooked lamb, a Bedouin special. The tents were cozy and we were told they had Bedouin influences. It got especially cold at night, and as we were walking by, we wished they had added more lighting across the camp’s paths. Overall, a great experience. 10/10

2. “Loved the Wadi Rum Night Camps”

Loved the Wadi Rum Night Camps. The whole vibe of the place was outstanding, and so were the Jeep and Camel rides, they were 10/10. I highly recommend it.

3. “An Interesting Experience to Say the Least”

The camps in Wadi Rum were lovely on their own. I liked the hospitality of the staff, and the food, and loved the sunrise from the tents. However, the noise from another camp somewhat disrupted our stay.

4. “Loved, Loved the Desert Experience!”

Wadi Rum took my heart and I really loved, loved the desert experience! I absolutely adored stargazing in the night sky and saw some stars like Sirius A and others. Sleeping in a tent and staring across the sky was always my dream. They offered us Hot Air Balloon rides, which I loved.

The Bedouin food was amazing, and I thought it was a real natural experience (spoiler alert) when the Wi-Fi signals were not working sometimes. Overall it was a nice close-to-nature experience. Would 10/10 go again.
